Dubai

Our Uber driver picked us up on time and delivered us to Tullamarine 4 hours before our flight.  Flight left on time and was full. Our Emirates flight was fantastic with great service -even metal cutlery.  We managed some restless sleep over the 14 hours of the flight arriving in Dubai at 6:35am on Saturday morning.

The Boeing 777-300 was parked away from the terminal and buses took us very slowly to the terminal – a 35 minute trip. Even the UAE Custom’s cameras did not like us so delayed another 20 minutes.  Finally we were delivered safely to our hotel by our Emirate’s driver.

The Millennium Hotel is lovely but despite having a 7am until 7am booking they said a room would not be available until at least midday – it was 8:45am.  So I sat on a sofa in the lobby and Ginny sort of lay down on the sofa and we went to sleep.  Unbeknown to us the hotel manager emerged to see two guests sound asleep in his lobby.  I guess for a classy hotel it was not a good look.  Surprisingly we were given a room before 10:00am.  Now I know what to do next time.

The afternoon was spent 300 meters down the road from our hotel at the The Emirates Mall –

Not quite like Eastland.

Sunday 4th May we thought we would visit ‘The Dubai Museum of the Future’. Unfortunately we found out on-line that no tickets were available until Tuesday.  It must be on the ‘tours’ list. So instead we caught the metro, an experience in itself, joining the locals but making sure NOT to get into a carriage for ‘Women Only’ as we did in 2018.

Arriving at Dubai Mall station we took the coverd-in walkway to the Mall about 600 meters away.  We appreciated the 6 X 100  meter travelators.

Dubai had unusually hot weather for the few days we have been here.  40C each day.  Stifling hot so obviously not the temperature for doing a lot of sightseeing.  Hence the malls are so interesting ….just watching people.

Following are a few of my photos from the Dubai Mall.

And so ended our couple of days in Dubai.  Next Stop – Oslo, Norway.

Thank you so very, very much Colin and Ginny. Never been and will never go so do so L O V E reading and seeing. I have watched many interesting documentary pieces but nothing like having one’s own guide and photographer. Sitting up in a warm bed looking out, at yet again, at an overcast day.
Enjoy for me too please. Railway is the way to go and Kimberley is very envious. He has an affinity for train travel and those documentaries are always so good.
Our love and we look forward to the next weeks. 🥰💞

    Hi Col and Gin,
Great photos and good to see you coping with the heat of Dubai! Some very familiar landmarks for us, when we were walking through the walkway there was a team of window washers abseiling down the side of the Burt Khalifa!
    Cheers,
    Rog and Pat
