MADRID and BARCELONA
We flew from Naples to Madrid, our first trip to Spain. We have found Spain’s two main cities to be very clean and very modern.
Our Madrid accommodation was in the centre of the city with a great selection of restaurants all around. After the very expensive countries of Norway, Germany and Switzerland it has been nice in Italy and Spain to have coffee, wine and meals at what we would consider more affordable prices.
One of the highlights of Madrid was spending a few hours at the Prado Museum where every piece of artwork was a masterpiece. Absolutely incredible.
We had two full days in Madrid before heading for the fast train and Barcelona. The ‘Fast Train’ was running 30 minutes late and my first photo (under Barcelona photos) shows the crowds at the Madrid Station awaiting details of which platform the train would leave from. The train reached speeds of 304Kph.
We found Barcelona to have wider streets and more tree-lined streets compared to Madrid. On our two days in Barcelona we mastered the Metro train system, visited the Sagrada Familia the amazing unfinished cathedral by Gaudi, strolled the streets and alleys of the Gothic District, visited the Arc de Triumph, Markets, Botanic Gardens and much more.
I have included some photos below in two sections to give readers a feel for each of these amazing cities.

And so our European holiday comes to an end. Tomorrow we leave Spain and fly to Singapore for a two night stopover before arriving home on Thursday 5th June.
What an amazing holiday we have had with unbelievably fine weather every day.

Amazing photos we would love to do Spain. The Blog has been a great read we loved following your travels.
Have a safe trip home see you at Book Club!!
Great photos, thanks.
I thought the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia would be completely renovated by now! It sure is a long, slow process. I hope you were able to tour inside the Basilica.
Enjoyed all your photos Col, and yes, amazing weather.
Make sure to use the trains in Singapore, and catch the Gardens by the Bay, also, market food is excellent and inexpensive!
Cheers,
RognPat
