Cornwall

From Oxford we travelled straight to Mevagissey, a beautiful fishing village on the south coast of Cornwal.  We had an apartment overlooking the water for a week and used it as our base to see a few parts of Cornwall.  The fine weather we have enjoyed continues.

Here are just a few of the beautiful sights in Cornwall (where my great grandparents on my mother’s came from near St Just).

The view from our apartment in Mevagissey.

Mevagissey Harbour.

The one lane street stretching for about 200 meters climbing from Mevagissey Harbour to the hill where our apartment was.  We did this run at least once a day and crossed our fingers that there was no traffic coming.  Failed a couple of times. (We also walked it a few times most days)

Evening light – Mevagissey Harbour.

No …. was not me repairing the lights.  I felt ill just watching him.

Around Mevagissey.

Arriving at Fowley by ferry – anouther beautiful fishing village but different to Mevagissey.

Around Fowley.

Amazing who you find lurking in Fowley ……..

Port Isaac AKA Portwenn in Doc Martin. – the fishing village where Doc Martin was filmed.

Looking down to the town from just near Doc Martins house.

Ginny waiting outside Doc Martin’s House …… and he refused to see her!!!

So sad to see Lands End turned so commercial – theme park, rides and food.  Not to mention the £6. Parking fee.  Oh the scenery is still great.

Lands End

And the obligatory photo.

The Eden Project 30 minutes from  Mevagissey – if you don’t get lost. 🙄.  A couple of biomes one replicating a rain forest area and climate and the other Mediterranean climate.  An exercise in getting us to think about the planet and what can be done better …..plus of course the usual money making at the 5 huge cafes and the giagantic souvenir and gift shop.

The Australian wildflower section in the Mediterranean Biome.

Remanents of the copper mining in Cornwall between St. Just and St. Ives.

From the ferry on our way back to Mevagissey from Fowley …… just for you Wicksy.

Next is off to Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park.

Cornish pictures – bring back many memories of the start of our married life in Penzance. John used to rush around at all hours of the day and night – surprisingly he only wrote 1 car off in those narrow lanes! Nice to see a picture of a small yacht sailing! Not like our wonderful Dreamtime of London! Carry on enjoying your great holiday.

Just love the little towns and harbours of Cornwall. My folks came from Cornwall and Devon way back too. Enjoying it all with you, apart from that woman who keeps following you around Col.
